Driver Tip

A tip added to a rideshare or delivery order, paid directly to the driver. Editable post-trip on most platforms.

Driver tip is a voluntary payment to the rideshare driver or delivery courier. On Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub, tips are added either at order time or post-delivery (typically up to 30 days later).

Tips go entirely to the driver — the platform takes no cut. Suggested tip amounts in-app are usually $1-5 for short rides, 15-20% for delivery orders. Most riders tip 10-15% of the fare for rides; delivery customers tip closer to 18-20%.

On the receipt, the tip appears as a separate line near the bottom of the fare breakdown: "Tip: $5.00". If the tip is added post-delivery, the original receipt shows $0.00 and an updated receipt is emailed with the final amount.

For DoorDash and Uber Eats, the tip is settled with the driver within hours; for rideshare, the tip can be added up to 30 days post-trip via the app.
